Culture

Culture is weaved into the fabric of our every day lives: in the bodega on the corner, the music playing in the market, the bell hanging from your favorite mom and pop shop's door. Culture is who we are as people, as human beings, what we do, what we believe. When we look beyond our culture and learn about those of others, you can lead an enriched, blissful life.

"The culturists, by which term I mean not those who esteem culture (as what intelligent man does not) but those its exclusive advocates who recommend it as the panacea for all the ills of humanity, for its effects in cultivating the whole man." ~ J.C. Shairp

Your first encounters with culture are at home. Whether it is how you are taught to treat others, your openness to what is different, where your parents came from, how/why you prepare a dish, the way you choose to gather around the table, the books you read, the music you listen to, the time you wake up,  the God you serve, culture starts at home. In this home, it is no different.

Trading Plates & Co is our culture initiative, the purpose of which is to build knowledge through culture. The mission is to share culture through food, with a vision to challenge ignorance and encourage change.

The first place we learn about who we are is at home. The world your parents and family create can protect you from the outside but also introduce you to those that are around you, similar and different. If you experience it the right way, you not only learn but grow.

The world is your table. You can dine at it anywhere. But it is better if you savor the world at home.
